Hooded eye lids? SO what?!?

World is a prejudiced place. No matter how modern one becomes or how broad minded. Doesn’t matter which part of the world you stay in. Tall is always considered better. Slim… sexier, Fair… more beautiful.

And this badly placed prejudice affects so many people intentionally/ unintentionally... that it's just sad.
I’ve heard so many of my friends and family complain about having small and/or hooded eyes. How they think it’s their worst feature. How it spoils their entire face and that they can’t do a dime about it.
First of all, small eyes or hooded eyes are nothing to be sad about. It’s just a type of an eye shape that majority chunk of people in the world have.

One needs to accept that before anything else. Make up is not a technique to hide your so-called- imperfections but a way of enhancing your beauty. Bringing out your features in the best possible ways…And to have fun!
However it’s very important to realize that all current trends may NOT work for u.

Yes, we, the hooded eyed ladies, do get restrained a bit while experimenting with the eyes.

If you are still confused whether you do/do not have hooded lids..here goes…
  • You spent an hour perfecting that eye makeup, blending blending blending all those pretty shades. You even got those Cat-eyes done perfectly. When your finally done, you stare at yourself straight at the mirror and realize your eye make up is just not showing, baring a tad bit of the liner. The beautiful gradient of the eye shadow hides beneath that fold of skin.

  •  You are completely lost when someone asks you to find your crease?

  •  You look at the beauty gurus on youtube painting away their eyes like it’s a goddamn canvas. While you look into the mirror and think “Where the hell do I do all that?!? There is no space!”

Yes. Welcome to the club.

So here are a few basic tips that should suit all kinds of hooded eyes.
  1.      Try Tightlining .Will not lie. It shall be an ordeal if it’s the first time for you. But once you get used to it, it makes a huge difference. Tightlining is applying kohl/liner on your UPPER waterline. What it does, is, it darkens the lashline making it more prominent while keeping the lid space.
  2. Concentrate on the lower lash line. Try thin or thick liners. See what suits you. Experiment with colored liners. While keeping your upper lid area clean.
  3. One at a time -If you wanna go dramatic, try not to go too heavy on both upper and lower lines together. Either concentrate on a prominent upper liner keeping the lower line clean or vice versa. Going heavy on both shall make your eyes seem even smaller and might give a goth look. Well that might go well with a few looks. But choose carefully, depending on what you are really going for.
  4. Get an eye lash curler NOW! Curl them and curl them good. Curled lashes ofcourse look flattering and will open up the eyes even more.
  5. Make Mascaras your best friend! Go heavy on the lashes. Make them as fluttery as possible.
  6. Use a Nude liner on the waterline. It will give the illusion of bigger eyes by extending the whites of the eye. A flesh toned liner can make you look fresh and less tired. A quick tip for those tired morning. Many use white colored liners on their waterlines. But I think it looks a bit too stark. A nude looks more natural and dainty like.
  7. Use matte eye shadows. If you wanna go festive try subtle shimmers. Avoid glitter at all cost. The glitter will catch the light which’ll reflect against the hooded eye lids, highlighting the part, making it seem even more hooded. And it’ll make the eyes droop even more. Is it making sense?
  8.  Keep it Simple. Use 1..max 2 colours to just wash over the lids. The more complex the eye shadow (read more gradient of colours), the smaller the eyes will look. The worst part, majority part of it won’t even show.
End of the day, experiment with yourself. Try figuring out what works for you the best. And more importantly love yourself. I'd suggest you look for famous ladies who have your eye shape and try to follow her makeup style.
Some such women with hooded/ small eyes - Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Taylor Swift, Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence....the list can go on.

StreetWear Ultra Moist Lipstick in Pink Persuasion

This has to be my best buy this year! There i said it... I’m not even gonna stall.
These are perfect. It has an amazing range of shades to choose from. Pinks to orange to nudes to some berry and then some mauvy tones.

The finish is Semi Matte, but it applies on smooth. Does not dry my lips.
*Big thumbs up for that*

However it sure does transfer (My coffee mugs shall vouch for that).

Pink Persuasion is a bright reddish pink colour with a tinge of coral in it.
But it transfers a true pink on my lips. There's no coral tinge to it. Only in artificial lights, when applied heavily, does it show a little reddish/neonish.

This particular shade looks very different under varied lights on my lips alone.
It looks pretty coral on my friend's lips. So do try this shade yourself first before buying. Or if you're like me then be a rebel and take a chance with this, 'cause trust me this shade'll look pretty anyhow.

It can be built up to varied degrees. I dab on just a little with a gloss and it’s a perfect everyday dainty pink.

2-3 swipes can make it a full blown bold pink.

The shade is a very fresh young colour that’ll brighten up a face any season.
This lippie stays on for 3-3.5 hours, which is fine by me. (Did i hear someone say "Low expectations "?)
Well the best of the lippies last for 3-3.5 hrs on me max! Even the matte ones start fading in the most unflattering way. You know how all the colour on the centre of your lips fade away leaving just an outline. Hate it! I prefer that the entire colour fades off evenly, even though quickly, rather than the outline horror.
To top it, I have extremely dry lips which are always chapped! Hence matte lipsticks and I… let’s just say, we’re not the best of friends.
But this one.. this darling gives my lips the moisture required while giving the illusion of a matte lip. LOVE!

I found this Pic of mine where i wore this colour. It looks pretty neutral on me in the morning light.

And Oh! These smell like Vanilla. Sighhh!
The packaging is real cute. No doubt about that. However it is also very flimsy. The twist is pathetic and the fact that the bullet does not twist inside the tube completely is irksome.  But I can totally ignore that for the quality I’m getting especially for the price.

Price- Rs.180/-

HOT/NOT:

A definite must have. There’s a colour for everyone. It’ll be a shame if you miss out on this range.

*You have a great day and keep smiling*

My everyday Skin Care Routine for Winters!

Hey There!

Kolkata is perfect right now. Perfect chill in the weather. Not too cold but cold enough. And this obviously demands a change in the skincare/haircare/clothes and practically everything.
My skin loves the cold… it behaves itself, it’s not angry or grumpy. (Of course minus the mood swings during PMS times )
Thankfully the routine I’ve been following since a month is working well for me. Touch wood…  And I hope this helps you some way…

My Skin type- Unpredictable. Combinational. Ultra Sensitive.
Hence i'm trying to make a consious effort to use products with less alchohol and parabens.

Skincare routine

Step I-
I use Johnson’s Baby Oil as a makeup remover/cleanser. And it works beautifully! It breaks down every bit of the makeup. It works on waterproof mascaras Like. A. Boss.
I’ve literally forgotten about my Loreal makeup remover after using this. I’m not even tempted to use that or anything else for that matter.
Does not irritate my eyes. Does not break me out.
I know a lot of you’ll be thinking…”Girl! That baby oil has mineral oil in it!.”  Yeah. I know. With regards to the debate whether mineral oil is good or bad, I think it's all a MYTH. If it’s good enough for a baby…it’s damn well good enough for me.
Anyhow here are a few links you can check out and make up your own mind.
http://skincare.about.com/od/skin101/tp/Skincare-Myths.htm
Basically I believe if a product works for you… Use it. It’s not necessary that a natural product won’t break you out. It’s all about what works for YOU. Individually.

Price:  50ml ; MRP: Rs.48/-

Step II-

After I’ve scrubbed the oil out of my face, along with the dirt and all, with cotton, I use my Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash. It does not foam too much. And I like that for the colder season. The foaming face washes dry out my skin too much. Just finished my Neutrogena Clean Facial cleanser (Look out for my empties post for this quarter). Love it. Also Clean and clear facial wash has been my staple since like…ever! (Do you realise my mental affiliation towards Johnson & Johnson related products)

Price: 250ml ; MRP: Rs.695/-

Step III-
After I’ve dried my face with a clean towel, I use The Body Shop Aloe Calming Toner. Just a few drops on cotton suffice. 4 drops, to be exact, for my face and 2 drops for my neck. It soothes my skin and removes any remaining dirt on the face (Believe me even after all those previous steps the cotton turns out dirty :\)
Initially I didn’t realize the importance of this step. But before, I would get these acne kind bumps on my face. Not really acne or pimples. It did not hurt or itch, nor did they turn into white heads. The skin specialist said it was kind of an allergic reaction to something.
But since I started using this toner, the bumps (I don’t know what to call them!) have visibly lessened. Toner majorly helps to maintain the PH level of the skin and calms down the irritations. Now someone with a normal skin type might not realize the difference after using a toner. But those with sensitive skin, I’ll urge you to start using a toner. Start with rose water. Use it religiously twice a day, if you don’t want to invest in something costly.
Price – 200ml ; MRP: Rs.795/-
A 200ml bottle is going to last me forever!

Step IV-
I let the toner set and dry for 4-5 mins. During daytime on weekdays when I have to go to work I put on my Neutrogena Ultra sheer Dry touch Sunblock, over it.
At night or during the day when I’m home, after the toner dries, I then apply the Aloe Soothing cream. Just a pea sized amount is enough for the whole face and neck. This range also has a night cream. But this is moisturizing enough for me. Need to be a little careful since excess makes the face oily. But that's ok for the night when I'm retiring to bed anyways.

Neutrogena Ultra sheer Dry touch Sunblock Price- 88ml; MRP:Rs.499/-
TBS aloe Soothing cream Price- 50ml ; MRP: Rs.995/-

STEP V-
I then apply the Vitamin E Eye cream under my eyes and on my eye lids. This I apply only at night while I’m retiring to bed. Keeps the eye area super moisturized. Claims to reduce appearance of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Everything that I need.
Honestly I still don’t know if it’s working or not. But I know it's an essential for the longer run and I’m a hopeless optimist.
Price- : Rs.995/- My Buy: Rs.746/- ; 25%OFF

Step VI-
When I’m all moisturized and squeaky clean, I finally dab on some lip balm and I’m done!

So that's my routine and has been helping me for quite sometime...

*What do you think works for you best? *

My Favourite Winter Polishes

This is just gonna be a short.. only pictures and no blabber kinda post. I’ll be showing my current favorite polishes for the winter. I’m usually into nudes during colder season as you’ll notice in the pictures.

So from the right-

  1)  Maybelline Colour Show Cinderella Pink – Love this shade! It’s a pretty shell colored polish (I think so!) which looks sooo pretty with everything. Be it casuals or party wear.

      2)        Maybelline Colour Show Silk Stockings - It’s basically the shade nude skin with shimmers in it. Only a tad bit pinker.

3)       Maybelline Colour Show Nude Skin A basic must have nude shade. Love. Check out the shade HERE

     4)      Maybelline Colour Show Chrome PinkLike the name suggests, a Metallic chromatic pink shade.

     5)      Maybelline Colour Show Crazy Berry – Yes. Finally a dark winter shade. I’m really digging the deep purple this month more than wine or plum shades. Any more than 2 coats of this looks almost black. But one can make out the tinge of purple in sunlight.

      6)      Surbhi Cedar – Got this from a street shop in Pune (MG road). So not sure if this is available anywhere else. It’s a beautiful metallic shade of blue. I especially love to wear it on my toe nails. Check out the shade HERE

     7)      Colorama Paixao A deep red shade. Not grabbing it too much. But winter’s the only season I feel like wearing red nails… *Xmassyyy*

8) BK Super Matte Surface Oil LOVE this! It’s a top coat that you wear on a different polish and it turns the shade matte! This certainly deserves a separate post.

I have sooo many more but these were the ones I've been using this season.

*What are your favourites? Suggest me some!*
